TEACHERS DIPLOMA
SUMMER SCHOOL
2008
What is the BMG Federation?
The British Banjo, Mandolin and Guitar Federation
- BMG exists to promote the performance and education of banjo, mandolin
and guitar.
President: Louis de Bernières
Vice President:Dorothy Oram
How does it do this?
One of the ways in which it achieves this is
by making information available about forthcoming events in its quarterly
newsletter which is posted to all members. (UK adult membership costs £12.50
per year -for more information see under 'Membership' heading on this
page). In addition the BMG Federation organises a weekend Festival
and Rally and a weekend Summer School.
Education
The BMG is committed to creating the educational opportunities for players
of all ages to learn and improve on their chosen instruments. We do this
through running both our own courses and advertising courses
run by other individuals or organisations. We run
a summer school and have held courses for teachers in techniques and methodology. In progress
is a Teaching Diploma Course for mandolin
teachers.

In addition to the AGM, the committee meets once a year, at a location to

Rally
The rally is one
of the main events in the BMG Federation's calendar. It is an exciting opportunity
to meet other players, enter competitions, attend workshops and visit
stalls. The Rally is a weekend event with a social and friendly
atmosphere.
Summer School
The Summer School is the other main event that the BMG Federation
organises. This is held at a weekend, usually in June or July. Courses for banjo,
mandolin and guitar are held with either three or four tutors depending
on the number of students that enrol.
The BMG in Europe
The BMG Federation is a member of EGMA (European Guitar and Mandolin Association).
Every year a national youth orchestra EGMYO
(European Guitar and Mandolin Youth Orchestra) meets in different
countries to be tutored and conducted by professional teachers.
